December Field Journal
Weeks 13-14. Close the record. The last entry should be honest about what you still cannot do well - that is more useful to you in January than a summary of what went fine.
Before you write anything about a child, read this.
You are working in a real school with real children. This portfolio may become public.
-
Never use a child's real name. Use "Student A," "Student B," with the grade only.
-
Never post a photograph in which a child's face is visible.
-
Never post student work showing a name, ID number, or identifying handwriting.
-
Do not name the classroom teacher without their permission.
-
Do not describe a specific child's disability, diagnosis, IEP or 504 status, family situation, or disciplinary history.
-
Write about what you observed and what you learned, not about who the child is.
-
Before sharing this portfolio, open the published version in a private window and reread every entry as a stranger would.
If you are unsure whether something belongs here, ask Dr. Garvin before you post it, not after.
Evidence in more than one mode
Use the modes that fit your evidence and delete the rest. Image: de-identified student work or materials. Video: your own teaching or a screencast, never a clip in which a child is identifiable. Audio: a two-minute spoken reflection, recorded the same week.
